Whismur were thought to imperceptibly murmur, but new research suggests they communicate in tones so high-pitched that people and most Pokémon cannot hear. They drop down to mere “earsplitting” frequencies to boost the distance of their distress signals.

Loudred are remarkably terrible at hearing — this could be an adaptation to avoid overwhelming their own ears, or it could be that they all quickly deafen themselves.

Exploud’s auditory system has been completely repurposed to make them even louder. They “hear” by sensing vibrations through their feet and detecting resonances in their windpipes. They do a wonderful baseball organ impression.
