The dirt and rock a Pupitar consumed as a Larvitar determine the thickness, color, and shape of its outer shell. It is rumored that if a Larvitar eats a mountain’s worth of gems, it will evolve into a Pupitar with a crystalline shell.

Tyranitar draws its massive power from the Pupitar husk visible in its belly. This husk creates so much energy that a Tyranitar’s internal temperature is over 800 degrees. The husk also allows Tyranitar to eat radioactive minerals, its favorite food.
