Battlefields slowly clean themselves with Honedge — spirits inhabit each weapon until all are gone. There was once a king who attempted to use an army of Honedge, but their reign shortly ended.

When Doublade loses a blade, it grows another. The discarded sword loses its ghastly powers, but is still finely-made. This leads poachers to try capturing only half of Doublade, selling the remaining sword to “historical researchers.”

Aegislash can control the weak-minded, and orders weak-willed hunters to attack each other without ever drawing its own blade. When an Aegislash takes control of a castle, it waits for a strong Trainer to defeat it and claim the estate as their own.
